FAQs

What is Child Sponsorship?

  • Through our child sponsorship program, young people in the Philippines are given the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty by gaining an education. Each child is matched with a sponsor who can offer life-changing financial support and hope. Sponsors can write letters to their child and may also choose to give extra financial donations to help meet the child's or family's greatest needs.

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

  • To sponsor a child from Kindergarten through Year 10 with MPFG Australia, costs $25 per month or $300 per year.  Your support provides school fees and covers other school supplies such as uniform, shoes, books and bags.

  • To sponsor a student in Years 11-12 with MPFG Australia, costs $45 per month or $500 per year.  Your support provides payment of school fees, uniform, project costs and more.

  • We really desire to see children and young people involved in our program reach their full potential.  We endeavour to help students in their individual hopes for their future by supporting their pathway to higher education.  To sponsor a student in public University or Technical College with MPFG Australia, costs $45 per month or $500 per year.  Your support provides payment of admission, enrolment and examination fees.  Of course, sponsors can pay more, but depending on the course, students are expected to contribute to their needs through part-time employment or gaining a scholarship.

  • Other benefits for students in the sponsorship program include holistic education in life skills, physical and spiritual care as students attend programs with Mission Possible for Future Generations, Philippines.

  • You can donate toward our scholarship fund even if you don't sponsor a child.  This fund is used to help cover any outstanding costs due to loss of sponsorship or extraordinary circumstances.  People are welcome to donate to this fund at any time.

  • All financial donations towards education costs of $2 AUD or more tax-deductible.

How are other needs met for my child?

  • As an organisation, our desire is to see children and young people achieve their dreams.  Because no two people are the same, a standard approach is not going to fit everyone.  MPFG Australia, along with Mission Possible for Future Generations, Philippines work on an individual basis with students to ensure a tailored approach is employed to meet their needs.  Trust is built through relationship with the child and their family, while respect and dignity are upheld in all situations.

What if my sponsor child leaves the program?

  • Sometimes, a young person may still be studying when they finish in our Program. Local volunteers walk alongside children and youth throughout their sponsorship journey, supporting them to finish well and gain their High School Certificate (as a minimum). With the added encouragement of a caring sponsor, these young people are supported to step confidently into adulthood with attainable hopes for their future.

  • When a child graduates from the program, our volunteers offer care and compassion wherever possible to meet their most pressing need—whether that’s continuing their education or overcoming obstacles that could hold them back.

Can I contact my sponsor child or send them a gift?

  • To protect both children and sponsors, we don’t encourage direct contact outside MPFG's approved communication channels. This ensures the safety, privacy, and wellbeing of everyone involved. All letters and gifts are processed through MPFG's offices to support the child’s development in a safe and caring environment. This also helps maintain accountability and prevents misunderstandings or unintended pressure on families.

  • Sometimes, sponsor children may reach out to their sponsor via social media. This is not an approved channel for communication, and we kindly ask sponsors not to respond. Engaging through unofficial platforms can put both the sponsor and student at risk and may bypass important safeguards designed to protect the child’s privacy and wellbeing. If you are ever contacted directly, please contact MPFG Australia so our team can provide appropriate guidance.

  • You have the option to give a financial gift to your sponsored child or their family, and 100% of your gift will go directly to them. Local staff will use it to purchase something that meets their most pressing need at the time. Even if the gift doesn’t directly pay for education, it can help remove other urgent obstacles that may be preventing your sponsored child from continuing their studies.
